My daughter is obsessed with money: asking for money, earning money, spending money, and making money. Past experience with her has taught me that I get nowhere resisting her, and the only way to preserve my sanity is to channel her towards something constructive rather than towards contributing to my mental illness.
I've worked at home for myself for many years and all of my daughter's life. My first business was one in which I sold my handmade beads on eBay. She knew that I worked for a while, got money for my beads, and then we went to McDonalds and possibly Toys R Us. So now she figures she'll cut out the middlemom and just get the money for herself. She spends a lot of time gathering things for her "shop" now. I'm talking piles of stuff: paper punchies, flowers from our yard wrapped in yarn, candy (that she always ends up eating herself).
So I'm looking for yet another way to make the most of this potentially maddening chain of events. So far I've come up with Jookie's Boutique. Jookie is my daughter's nickname; I gave it to her when she was a baby screaming in the middle of the night. I used to sing to her, and the word just kind of made itself out of a few different songs.
Stay tuned to hear more details of what we plan to do, and how it's going.
